About Monica's

Board & Train Programs

Give your dog a structured, transformational training experience. My Board & Train programs take place in a real home environment with exceptional, personalized care. Only 1–2 dogs stay at a time to ensure true 1-on-1 attention, so spots are limited.

Where Your Dog Will Stay

Your dog will live in a clean, secure home environment—not a crowded kennel. They’ll be part of my daily routine while maintaining all necessary safety protocols.

  • 2 dogs maximum for individual attention

  • Daily structured training + naps in a comfortable crate

  • On-leash supervision until trustworthy off-leash

  • Supervised play with my personal dogs (when appropriate)

  • Personalized care: food rewards, medication (if requested), enrichment, and 1-on-1 playtime

  • Field trips to parks, neighborhoods, and pet-friendly stores

FAQs

What training method do you use? I use a modern, relationship-based approach that prioritizes clarity, communication, and fairness. Rewards, markers, structured routines, and appropriate tools may all be used to help your dog learn quickly and confidently.

What tools do you use during training? Depending on your program and your dog’s individual needs, we may use: - Food rewards - Toy rewards - Slip leads or martingale collars (for safety) - Leashes and long lines - E-collars (for off-leash programs) - Crates (for naptime) - Head halters or front-clip harnesses (for strong pullers) - Prong collars (for dogs with high pain tolerance such as Pitbulls, Retreivers, Rottweilers, Cattle Dogs, Livestock Guardians, etc.) - And anything else that might work for each individual dog Tools are always introduced thoughtfully and humanely, with your dog’s comfort and confidence in mind. If you have concerns about any of the tools, let me know and we'll see if we can work around it.

Can you train service dog tasks? Yes. There are hundreds of tasks a service dog can provide to help mitigate your disability. I am most familiar with training tasks for mobility and psychiatric disabilities, but I can also train scent detection alerts for medical disabilities. Full task training may result in a longer program. I do not train guide dogs for the blind.

Will my dog listen to me after the program? Yes. Every program includes daily training updates and 1–3 private transfer lessons so you learn exactly how to maintain and build on your dog’s new skills. Consistency at home is key, and I’ll make sure you feel confident before graduation.

Do you take in dogs living outside your service area? Yes, but you will be responsible for drop-off and pick-up, as well as be available to attend at least 1 transfer lesson in person. If you cannot attend the meetup before the program, you must provide videos of your dog's current behavior inside and outside the home.

Do you take in dogs living outside your service area? Yes, but you will be responsible for shipping your dog, as well as attend at least 1 transfer lesson in person at the end of the program. Travel cost is your responsibility. If you cannot attend the meet-and-greet before the program, you must provide videos of your dog's current behavior inside and outside the home.

Can I book online? Not at this time. Because Board & Train is a personalized, high-touch service, you must fill out a form to schedule a phone consultation and meet-and-greet. This allows us to make sure the program is the right fit for you and your dog.

Do you offer additional private lessons after the program? Yes. If you need additional help, you can pay for individual lessons at a discounted cost.

What vaccinations are required? Dogs must be up to date on core vaccines (rabies, distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus) and be in good health at drop-off.

Do you take intact dogs? Yes, in most cases. I do not take intact adult dogs that mark inside the house.

Do you guarantee results? I cannot guarantee results, but I do offer a 50% money-back guarantee if your dog does not show meaningful improvement by the end of their program. Your success matters, and I stand behind my work.

When can I get started? Board & Train spots are limited due to the low dog-to-trainer ratio. Reach out early to reserve a space.
